Follow the repair in order. Read every safety note before you begin, keep screws organized, and stop whenever your exact model does not match the instructions.
Do not insert liquids or sharp tools into speaker meshes, microphones, charging contacts, or battery openings.
Check your exact model
AirPods Pro generations use different mesh locations and approved cleaning methods. Identify the generation in your device Bluetooth settings or by its model number, then clean only the meshes and surfaces approved for that generation.

Step 1 of 7
Identify and inspect the AirPods
Confirm the AirPods Pro generation and inspect both earbuds, ear tips, meshes, microphones, stems, case wells, charging contacts, and charging port. Note low volume, imbalance, noise-control problems, or charging issues before cleaning.
CautionCracked housings, exposed battery material, unusual heat, swelling, or liquid inside the case require service rather than cleaning.
Hold each earbud by its body and pull the silicone tip firmly from its base. Check for tears, stretched attachment points, embedded debris, and wax inside the tip opening.
Technician tipKeep the left and right tips organized by size. A poor seal can reduce bass and noise cancellation even when the speaker is clean.
Rinse detached silicone ear tips with clean water only. Do not use soap or household cleaners. Wipe them with a soft lint-free cloth and leave them off the earbuds until fully dry.
CautionNever rinse an ear tip while it is attached to an AirPod, and never reinstall a damp tip.
For a supported AirPods Pro 2 or 3 model, follow Apple’s generation-specific mesh map. Use the approved soft-brush method on only those meshes, keeping liquid controlled and away from all other openings. For unsupported models, use a dry soft brush only.
CautionDo not use sharp picks, compressed air, abrasive material, or unapproved solvent. Pushing debris through a mesh can permanently damage the speaker or microphone.
Use a soft, dry lint-free cloth on each earbud. If the exterior has residue from lotion, sweat, or cosmetics, use a cloth only slightly dampened with fresh water, then dry the body immediately.
Technician tipHold mesh openings away from moisture so loosened material and liquid do not travel inside.
Remove the earbuds and wipe the case with a soft dry cloth. Brush loose debris from the wells and charging port using a clean dry soft-bristled brush. Use a dry swab around accessible surfaces without pressing on contacts.
CautionDo not put objects into the charging port, scrape metal contacts, flood the case, or use abrasive material.
Allow every cleaned component to dry completely. Align each dry oval ear tip and press until it clicks into place. Test fit, left/right balance, microphones, noise-control modes, and charging in both case wells.
CautionThe cleaning work takes about one hour, but any AirPod cleaned with Apple’s approved liquid mesh method must dry for at least two hours before use or placement in the case.
If a test fails, power the device off, disconnect the battery, and carefully reseat the relevant connector. Do not seal the display until every function passes.
