Safety first

Damaged lithium batteries and broken glass can cause fire or injury. Power off the phone and stop if the frame or battery is swollen.

Check your exact model

Screw sizes, cable locations, opening direction, and paired components vary by iPhone model. Confirm the exact model before opening the device. This overview does not replace a model-specific service manual.

8 steps

Repair instructions

Complete each step in order. Read cautions before touching the device.

01
Step 1 of 8

Prepare the phone and workspace

Back up important data, discharge the battery below 25%, power the phone off, remove the case, and work on a clean, well-lit surface. Put on eye protection if the glass is cracked.

CautionDo not begin if the battery is swollen, the phone is unusually hot, or the frame is badly bent.

Next step
02
Step 2 of 8

Secure broken glass

Cover cracked glass with overlapping clear tape so loose pieces remain contained. Leave space for the suction handle or create a folded tape pull-tab.

Technician tipOrganize every screw by its original position. Similar-looking screws may have different lengths.

Next step
03
Step 3 of 8

Remove the lower screws

Use the correct pentalobe driver to remove the two screws beside the charging port. Apply firm downward pressure so the driver does not strip the heads.

CautionConfirm model-specific screw lengths before reassembly; a misplaced long screw can damage internal layers.

Next step
04
Step 4 of 8

Soften the display adhesive

Apply controlled, even warmth around the display perimeter. The edge should feel warm, never painfully hot. Let the heat work before using more force.

CautionExcessive heat can damage the display or lithium battery. Never use an open flame.

Next step
05
Step 5 of 8

Create a safe opening gap

Attach the suction handle near the lower edge and lift with steady pressure. Insert an opening pick between the plastic display bezel and the frame—not between the glass and bezel.

Technician tipMark the pick about 3 mm from its tip to help prevent deep insertion near cables and internal parts.

Next step
06
Step 6 of 8

Separate adhesive and support the display

Move the pick slowly around the permitted edges for your exact model. Release clips gently, open the display in the model-correct direction, and support it so ribbon cables are never stretched.

CautionCable placement varies. Stop if the display resists or you cannot confirm the safe opening direction.

Next step
07
Step 7 of 8

Disconnect power, then the display

Remove the connector shields with the correct driver. Disconnect the battery first using a plastic spudger, then disconnect the display and sensor cables. Keep shields and screws grouped.

CautionNever pry connectors with metal and never disconnect or reconnect display cables while the battery is connected.

Next step
08
Step 8 of 8

Transfer, test, and reseal

Transfer only the brackets, speaker, or sensor components required by the replacement part. Connect the new display, reconnect the battery, and test before sealing. Power off again, install fresh adhesive, align the display, and close it without forcing clips.

CautionDamage to paired biometric sensor components can disable Face ID. A repair may also affect water resistance or display features.

If a test fails, power the device off, disconnect the battery, and carefully reseat the relevant connector. Do not seal the display until every function passes.
